PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF OCIMUM SANCTUM MEDICINAL PLANTS FOR THE TREATMENT OF HEPATOTOXICITY

چکیده
Modern medicine does not have reliable liver protection drugs that prevent and treat injury caused by drugs. The leaves of sacred / holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) belong to the family lamiaceae, which is traditionally used for its protection. We aimed determine if Ocimum sanctum has hepatoprotective properties and, so, whether or they work synergistically with silymarin. Albino rats (150–200 g) were divided into five groups. Groups A B are normal control groups experimental groups, respectively. C, D E received alcoholic extract (OSE) 200 mg kg BW day,, silymarin 100 mg/kg BW/day OSE + 50 p.o., respectively, 10 days. Hepatotoxicity was induced in B, on eighth day paracetamol 2 g/kg BW/day. effect hepatoprotection evaluated through a study serum proteins, albumin-globulin ratios, alkaline phosphatase, transaminase, histology. results presented as averages standard deviations each group (SEM). compared single-way ANOVA Bonferoni test followed. P-value <0.01 considered significant. In E, enzymes albumin globulin ratio significantly (P < 0.01) closer than B. On histological inspection, revealed reduced sinusoidal congestion, cloudy edoema, fatty abnormalities, regenerating regions liver, but showed only necrosis. significant synergy Silimarin.
